- Mitosis is a type of cell division, where a cell duplicates itself exactly. However mitosis is not a process that makes sperm or egg cells, because those two cells are made from meiosis.
- Mitosis is only done by body cells not reproductive cells.
- Before a cell can duplicate it must duplicate the DNA first, exactly, to pass on the genetic information to the produced daughter cells.
- DNA has 46 chromosomes, so during mitosis the cell has to duplicate those chromosomes first before dividing which means during the first phase the cell would have 92 chromosomes.
Steps of division during mitosis:
4. Telophase is when the chromosomes have separated, 42 on one side of the cell and 42 on the other, new nuclei are forming around each set of chromosomes. The cell then splits into two cells, daughter cells.
